about stock

stock e-journal is designed to give a voice to Tasmanian artists, writers, curators and all of those in between. The avenues for writing about the arts in Tasmania are pretty limited and stock aims to address this by providing an open forum for those engaged in the arts who have something to say. Our primary purpose is to encourage an exchange of ideas between local artists and their audiences, between current and recent exhibitions, and among artist’s practices. Content is generated by a growing community of registered stock users who are free to initiate discussion on an unlimited range of subjects relevant to contemporary art practice here in Tasmania.

Please read the contributor guidelines and submission instructions before making your contributions to ensure text appears on the forum as soon as possible.

There are two areas for writing within stock.

  • In articles you will find a selection of essays, opinion pieces, reviews etc. of anywhere between a few hundred and a few thousand words in length. This is a place for considered, informed, well-written pieces in a range of writing styles that may, or may not, be edited. Add your comments in response to an article you have read and if you feel inspired, follow the link to submit an article of your own.
  • In discussions you will find numerous forums running. These discussion forums are initiated by users and developed through the contribution of thoughts, questions, answers and comments. This is a place for conversation, throwing around ideas, debating and building a sense of the stock community. Start a new forum on an issue that interests you or get involved in a dialogue already underway.

All submissions are subject to an editorial process in order to maintain coherence and relevance. After a period of time content will be closed for further comments and archived.
